====================================================================

Women are not researched as often as men.  It is critically important for research to include equal numbers of men and women.  What are the differences in data for women vs. men?  What are the issues with diversity in research?  What about women’s health issues?

Join us to hear Dr. Robin Mason PHD who is a Scientist at Women’s College Research Institute. She is also the Scientific Lead for Women’s XChange, Assistant Professor for both the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and Department of Psychiatry at University of Toronto. Women’s Xchange Advocates for researchers to take into consideration both biological and socio-cultural factors when developing studies and programs and analyzing healthcare interventions. Doing so illuminates the numerous differences in how men and women experience health and access healthcare. By applying a sex and gender lens, better scientific evidence is produced ensuring that strategies, treatments and medications are tailored to the unique healthcare needs of both men and women.   Robin also is involved in Intimate partner violence for when they  seek healthcare services so they ensure appropriate, sensitive care is provided to those who have been physically or psychologically abused by their spouse or partner. Dr. Mason’s talk will be on Considering Sex and Gender+ in Health Research.

Also joining us is Celina Caesar-Chavannes.  Not only is Celina a renowned research consultant who has worked in private, government and NGOs, she is a former MP for Canada, representing the Town of Whitby.  Celina advocated for mental health issues and was named Chatelaine Magazine’s Woman of the Year 2019.  She has presented on the inclusion of marginalized populations in clinical research including women.

Starting off the evening will be Sabrina Ramkellawan who is the President of the Clinical Research Association of Canada and has 20+ years working in clinical research and over the last 5 years has focused on cannabinoid research.  Sabrina will introduce the topic, and speak on her experience in cannabis research and the importance of the inclusion of women research, medical products that include the needs of women and her experience working in a male dominated industry.
